Custom Design Process
Our Custom Design Process is Simple
Provide us with your original design sketch or images of designs you are interested in and some basic information about the piece you want, including your overall budget. We will discuss the design and offer advice on structure, comfort, and styling options.
A quote of the design is given and this design agreement is provided for your complete understanding of the custom design process. 50% of the design quote is then due as a deposit for work about to be performed on your behalf. This is when design CAD renders will be built and sent for approval.
During the design render process, we take your initial concept and notes taken during consultation and build your piece in 3 dimensions on a computer. This step can take up to seven (7) business days to begin.
Once the first CAD render is emailed or shown, you have up to seven (7) business days to make any decisions or changes in the design. Two changes to the initial design are allowed, totaling three sets of images per one design. Changes include modifications to the original concept such as changing prongs to bezel, adding or removing diamonds or gemstones, changes in sizes like band thickness, stone orientation or size, and metal quality or color. Changes outside of the original design concept and/or new designs are billed at $250.00 per hour for a single round of renders. Additional renders of a design(original or new) are billed at $175.00 per render.
Once the design is approved and the final balance paid, we start fabrication. All design changes are finished and the design is being fabricated in the metal of your choice. The only changes made at this point are for structural adjustments or unexpected setting problems.
Client Responsibilities
The client is responsible for approving renders and any changes to the design in a timely fashion, seven (7) business days after receipt of images for approval of design or changes is the maximum time allowed.
Time Frame
The Custom Design process can take an estimated six to eight weeks, depending on the quickness of design changes and approval, as well as complexity of design and setting. Custom stone cutting adds two to six weeks to any design.
Non-Refundable Deposit
Deposits for Custom Design are non-refundable. Your deposit is used to cover work and expense of the original design and materials sourcing, and so is not eligible for refund. Abandoned or not purchased design work is non-refundable.
Billing
There will be two payments; 50% of the design quote prior to starting the design in CAD, and the final balance at the end of the design/render process, prior to starting any fabrication. Any additional design or render charges will be billed in the second payment. Center stones are sourced and priced separately from the ring mount, and may be paid in a third separate payment.
Warranty
Laura Preshong stands behind the quality and craftsmanship of our ethical fine jewelry. We offer a Free Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects. If you experience a problem with your purchase due to manufacturing, please contact us so that we may evaluate the damage and repair. If your merchandise is damaged due to a manufacturer defect, Laura Preshong will repair or replace the item without charge. This Free Lifetime Warranty includes cleaning and prong tightening (shipping charges applied).
Our Lifetime Warranty excludes coverage for sterling silver jewelry, normal wear and tear and/or physical abuse, loss of precious and semi-precious stones, neck chain breakage, loss of item and theft. Improper repair performed by someone other than Laura Preshong will void this warranty. We recommend the purchase of independent insurance for all of your precious jewelry. Insurance will help recover significant damage, loss, or theft. Most large diamonds purchased through Laura Preshong include a free one-year gem insurance policy, please read the policy as it arrives for full limitations and details.
Ring Sizing
Within 90 days of purchase, we offer one complimentary resizing for our standard gold and platinum ring styles. Custom-made, customized, and engraved rings may be subject to resize fees. Ring sizing takes 7 to 10 business days from drop off or delivery.
Term and Termination
The normal term of a project will begin payment of initial deposit, and end with the client’s acceptance of the completed design and fabrication of the design concept And final payment. Should the order be cancelled during the approval process, the initial design deposit will be forfeited. Abandoned or not purchased completed design work is non-refundable.
